Carnival Glory To Cruise From New Orleans

Currently in drydock in France, Carnival Glory is undergoing upgrades to help make it more compliant to the CDCs protocols for cruise ships. The cruise line is also in the process of vaccinating the crew in preparation for the first cruise from New Orleans set to embark on August 1st. When it sails, the ship will only be at 70% capacity to adhere to the CDCs guidelines for social distancing.

Per the CDC, Carnival must also have an agreement in place with Port NOLA prior to sailing which outlines the procedures and protocols should an outbreak occur on one of the first sailings back. Last week, Carnival received approval from the CDC for their agreements with several other ports like Galveston, TX, PortMiami and Port Canaveral.

Cruises Return To The Port Of New Orleans With 285 Ship Calls Estimated For 2022

NEW ORLEANS The arrival of the Norwegian Breakaway on Nov. 21, 2021 at the Port of New Orleans signaled the start of a big comeback for cruise ship operations. The Breakaway joins the Carnival Glory and Valor who successfully restarted ocean-going cruises in September and early November.

This is a major milestone after cruises were completely shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. River cruises resumed successfully from the Port in March 2021, and in September 2021 Carnival was the first to restart ocean-going cruises that have continued to consistently drive business back to the New Orleans market. With the return of Norwegian Cruise Line and Disney Cruise Line slated for February, Port NOLA is forecasting 285 sailings during the 2022 calendar year and expecting nearly 1 million passenger movements.

All cruise lines operating from the Port currently have vaccination, testing and mask wearing requirements in place as well as strict COVID-19 protocols beyond federal recommendations.

We are pleased ocean-going cruises are resuming and joining the successful restart of river cruises nine months ago, said Brandy D. Christian, President and CEO Port NOLA. Cruises from the Port of New Orleans are critical to the state and regional economy. Our cruise passengers make up more than 300,000 hotel room nights alone in our city and they spend more than $125 million locally.

With Carnival Valor and Glory sailing from New Orleans, the cruise line expects to carry 400,000 passengers annually, more than any other cruise operator. Carnival Cruise Line first started sailing from the city in 1994 and has since grown its capacity and operations from the port by carrying up to 4.5 million guests.
