The really obvious answer to this is their size. There is a lot of difference if you compare the Disney Cruise Ships.
If you want a smaller Disney cruise ship which is easier to get around and also to get to know, you will be happier on the classic ships.
If you want more facilities and dont mind the fact that there are more people, the newer Disney ships are the best.
However, it really isnt that simple. There are many other things to consider when you ask yourself which is the best Disney cruise ship.
Nemos Reef Vs Nephews Splash Zone
Disney Cruise Line doesnt allow children in the pools unless they are 3 years of age or older AND potty trained. Your options for toddler splash zones on the Disney ships vary by ship.
Nemos Reef is located on both the Disney Dream and the Disney Fantasy. This splash pad is a decent sized play area with features that pour or shoot water. There is also a tiny slide in Nemos Reef for those small kids who arent yet able to use the other slides on the ship.
The baby and toddler water play areas on the Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder are much less elaborate. Since these splash zones are smaller and offer less exciting water features, they are better for babies and younger toddlers.
If you have an older toddler or a preschooler, Nemos Reef on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy is the definite winner here.
**Note- an additional water play area called the AquaLab is available on the Disney Fantasy, Disney Wonder, and Disney Magic. Like the pools, this area is for those children who are three years old or older AND potty trained.
For The Adults: ‘star Wars’ Superheroes And More
A new “Star Wars”-themed lounge called the Hyperspace Lounge will make passengers feel like they’re having a beverage on a luxury spaceship. The window behind the bar shows scenes of outer space with planets and spaceships flying by in the background. They’ll visit Batuu, Tatooine and more. Truly a Galaxy far, far away.
Theres a “Beauty and the Beast”-themed lounge called “The Rose” and Palo Steakhouse, with decor inspired by Cogsworth, the lovable clock from the film. Its described as steakhouse fare meeting authentic Italian cuisine.
And there’s the highest-end restaurant, Enchante, inspired by Lumiere, the candlestick from “Beauty and the Beast.” It’s a romantic and intimate venue with food created by Michelin three-star chef Arnaud Lallement.

Enchanting Staterooms And Suites On The Disney Wish
The accommodations on board the Disney Wish will feature artwork and designs inspired by beloved fairy tales like Cinderella and include ample rooms for guests to store their luggage and relax. The ship has 1,254 staterooms, most of which will offer an ocean view, with the option to connect many rooms for larger groups traveling together. The new ship will offer more concierge staterooms than any other ship 76 concierge staterooms and suites will have spacious accommodations inspired by Tangled. These include one-bedroom concierge suites and the first-ever staterooms located above the bridge, which will offer incredible ocean views with floor-to-ceiling windows. Four royal suites inspired by Sleeping Beauty will offer unbeatable space and luxury.
There are two Princess Aurora Royal Suites and two Briar Rose Suites, and each pair includes a two-story and a single-story configuration. These suites have some truly incredible features, including a private hot tub on the veranda, two master bedrooms, and more, plus, the two-story suites will have floor-to-ceiling windows, a spiral staircase, and two-deck-high stained glass. The Concierge Lounge is also getting a sizable upgrade on the new ship it will be more than three times the size of the lounges on other Disney ships and it will offer a full bar, light bites, a kids area, and a private sun deck with whirlpools, a wading pool, and more.

Which Disney Cruise Ship Is The Biggest
Want to know which cruise ships are the biggest in Disneys fleet? Two vessels tie for that distinction. According to Travel Agent Central, the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy each weigh in at 130,000 gross tons. Compare that to the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder, which weigh 83,000 gross tons each.
Its also worth noting that Disney plans to expand its fleet from four ships to seven. Travel Agent Central reports that three new ships set to start sailing in 2021, 2022, and 2023 are the lines biggest ships yet. These ships dont yet have names, but theyll weigh in at about 140,000 gross tons each.

Now, Disney Cruise Line has four ships sailing in those signature colors, along with three more on order. In a normal year, those four ships take tens of thousands of families on sailings to the Caribbean, Mexico, Alaska, Europe, Bermuda, Bahamas and even through the Panama Canal.

Disney Cruise Ship Stats
Disney Cruise Line’s original ships, Disney Magic, built in 1998, and Disney Wonder, built in 1999, are both 964 feet long and weight 83,000 gross tons. Both have 877 staterooms and 11 decks open to passengers, and they can host up to 2,713 guests during peak sailings. In addition, both ships have a crew of 947. There are 10 dining venues on Disney Magic, 11 on Disney Wonder and six retail shops on both ships. Disney Dream, built in 2011, and Disney Fantasy, built in 2012, are larger vessels, measuring 1,115 feet in length and weighing 130,000 gross tons. They both host as many as 3,500 passengers in 1,250 staterooms, along with a crew of 1,459. Passengers on both the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy have 13 dining venues to choose from, plus seven stores on board.

Best Inside Cabin With A View: Royal Caribbean
Royal Caribbean invented the concept of the cabin with an interior-facing window. These promenade cabins look out onto the Royal Promenade, an enclosed shopping street lined with stores, restaurants and watering holes. Whether you love an inside cabin with a view or hate the lack of privacy , you will find the biggest of the promenade cabins on the Oasis-class ships.
Disney Wish Staterooms Include Some That Are Two Stories Or Above The Bridge
Unique artwork inspired by “Cinderella” and other Disney classics adorn the staterooms, and 900 of 1,254 staterooms will be connected adjoining, making this ship the most family-friendly of the Disney fleet.
The rooms are larger, and most have an ocean view.
And for the first time, a Disney ship features two-story suites with spiral staircases and custom stained-glass art.
And, in another first, the Disney Wish will feature rooms above the bridge of the ship.

What To Expect For Families
Finally, we chose to sail on the Disney Magic because our cruise was a family cruise. Not just our immediate family, but a multi-generational one at that! Disney Cruise Line has amazing amenities for guests of all ages. Its vital to check the daily Navigator to see all of the available activities for the day.
My familys favorite spots were the Goofy Pool, Buena Vista Theater, and the Walt Disney Theater. In the Buena Vista Theater, we were able to see first run Disney movies like Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The Walt Disney Theater is home to spectacular live shows like Tangled: The Musical, which was one of the best Broadway-style shows I had ever seen!
What About The New Disney Cruise Ships
The Disney Wish is the newest ship in the fleet, entering service in 2022. And before that. the Dismey Fantasy is the newest. It is also the most recently refurbished, having undergone an extensive dry dock in May 2017 that added a Tiffany Jewelry Store, a Star Wars play station, and ice cream parlor.
The Wonder has been in service since 1999 and was recently reimagined with extensive updates at the end of 2016.
There are two more Disney ships announced that will join the fleet in 2023 and beyond.
The Dream and Fantasy have about fifty percent more the staterooms as the Magic and Wonder, 1,250 to 875, respectively.
The new Disney cruise ships coming are larger in size but capped at 1,250 staterooms according to existing reports. Two of these new ships will start at Port Canaveral alongside the Fantasy. The third ship has not been announced, but rumors say it may be docked in Asia.

Now, whats a Disney ship without food and interactive experiences while you eat?
The Disney Wish will have three new restaurants:
Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Experience will feature live shows with Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and, of course, Olaf. It has food inspired by Nordic influences.
1923 is named after the year Walt Disney Studios opened. It has food inspired by Hollywood and California flavors.
1923 is a celebration of Walts legacy, said Claire Weiss, Creative Director at Walt Disney Imagineering Germany.
The third was initially mentioned as being top secret, but was revealed as The World of Marvel. Passengers will play a role in a mission that unfolds while they dine.

Disney Cruise Line Announces Two New Ships
The Walt Disney Company announced plans to build two additional cruise ships, each of them showcasing the immersive family entertainment, enchanting storytelling and unparalleled service that only Disney can deliver. The company has entered into a memorandum of agreement with the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany. The schedule calls for the new ships to be completed in 2021 and 2023.
Each new ship will be approximately 135,000 gross tons slightly larger than the newest Disney Cruise Line ships, the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy and each is currently planned to include about 1,250 guest staterooms. While design plans, ship names and itineraries are still in development, the Walt Disney Imagineering team is already dreaming up exciting new ways to create the worlds most magical oceangoing adventures.
Other Interior Attractions And Activities
Meeting Disney characters is a really fun part of a Disney cruise. Who knows how this will work when cruising returns, but historically you made a reservation in advance to meet the popular princesses or Frozen gang.
Other characters, like Captain Minnie and friends, did not require an advance reservation. You would just get in line to say hi to the characters and have a picture taken. While some character appearances are a surprise, most times and locations are shared in advance on your daily cruise itinerary.
There is an onboard fitness center, so you can work off some of those treats and drinks.
The Senses Spa & Salon is a full-service spa with everything from massages to pedicures and hair care.
Pro tip: The showers in this part of the ship are full-sized in case you are getting a bit claustrophobic in the shower in your stateroom.
Youll want to make appointments in advance, though last-minute appointments are sometimes available if you are feeling spontaneous.
If you like getting away to relax, look at purchasing access to the Rainforest Room for heated stone loungers, aromatherapy showers and hot tub . You can buy a one-day or full-cruise pass to this area of the spa.
While the Senses Spa is for adults 18 and up, teens looking for a treatment can check out the Chill Spa.

Its A Small World Nursery
Once my 18 month old stepped into this nursery, she was in love! It was a small and quaint space! My kiddo was always happy when she came back to us. The teachers were super sweet. Even on our first day at the open house the nursery did, my little one didnt skip a beat playing with all the toys. I didnt hesitate to use this service at all . At one point, they took a picture with her with Donald Duck!

S: First New Build Ships
Tropicale
In 1982, Carnival introduced their first purpose-built ship, the Tropicale. This was the first ship where the iconic winged funnel was introduced, designed by Joe Farcus, who would become a longtime Carnival Cruise Line design collaborator, which has since been used on all ships in the fleet.
In 1984, Carnival would introduce a new television marketing campaign during this time, starring Kathie Lee Gifford, who continues to be a longtime collaborator with the line.
Holiday
Following the success of the Tropicale, and increased competition in Miami with newer ships, Carnival ordered the Holiday in 1985, followed by the Jubilee in 1986 and Celebration in 1987.
