Carnival Legend Itinerary Adjusted
The Spirit-class cruise ships January 9 sailing out of Baltimore in Maryland has been modified. Carnival Cruise Line has informed booked guests on January 8 that the vessels voyage has been shortened and will no longer be sailing to some of the originally scheduled ports.
Carnival Legend was set to depart on a 14-day itinerary, but the ship will now operate an adjusted 10-day voyage. The calls at Panama, Costa Rica, Jamaica, and Grand Turk have been removed. The ship will return to Baltimore on January 19, 2022, instead of the original date of January 23.
In a letter sent to guests, the cruise line says,Given the rapidly evolving COVID-related circumstances around the world, and in an abundance of caution, it will be necessary to modify the itinerary of your cruise. The voyage will now operate as a 10-day cruise returning to Baltimore 4 days earlier, on Wednesday, January 19, 2022.
The ship will now only be sailing to three ports during the cruising, including Carnivals private island of Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas, St. Maarten, and Antigua. There will be a total of six days at sea.
The cruise line continues to say in the letter,Unfortunately, this also means we will not be able to operate the Panama Canal itinerary you were expecting. We are truly sorry for this unexpected change of plans and trust you understand we are making this decision given our commitment to the safety of our guests, crew, and the communities we visit.

American Cruise Lines Ships
Three of American Cruise Lines’ ships have the same itineraries: “American Star,” “American Glory” and “American Spirit.” Each of these ships offers eight-day cruises to Chesapeake Bay, eight-day cruises to the Mid-Atlantic Inland Passage and 15-day cruises to the East Coast Inland Passage. “American Star” and “American Spirit” each have a passenger capacity of 100 people per ship, while “American Glory” is about half that with a passenger capacity of 49 people. All ships feature rooms and suites with private balconies and flat-screen TVs. “American Star” and “American Spirit” have three lounge areas, a putting green, a sun deck and an exercise center. “American Glory” has four lounge areas, a putting green and a sun deck.

Another Carnival Cruise Ship Returns To Service From Baltimore Maryland
Carnival Legend becomes the 16th Carnival cruise ship to return to service by restarting out of Baltimore and replacing Carnival Pride.
Baltimore welcomes Carnival Legend as the vessel finally resumes operations, her last cruise dating back more than 20 months. In that time, the ship has been waiting for the first guests to embark while also getting a new livery and going through dry-dock.
Carnival Legend will be based year-round in Baltimore, initially sailing cruises to the Bahamas next year, the itinerary will include cruises to Bermuda, The Panama Canal, Canada & New England, and the Eastern Caribbean. In 2023 the ship will sail on two extraordinary Greenland cruises from Baltimore.

Things To Do Near The Port
Have some time before your cruise? There are a number of things nearby that might be of interest.
Inner Harbor: A touristy part of town just south of downtown, the harbor features wide-open areas to walk next to the waterside, along with the National Aquarium, Maryland Science Center, shops, and restaurants.
Camden Yards/M& T Bank Stadium: Sports fan? Near Inner Harbor, the two stadiums of the Oriels and Ravens are just about 10-15 minutes from the cruise port. Check schedules to see if there is a ball game while youre in the area.

More Excitement To Come For Carnival Legend
Greenland is perhaps not the first place where one would imagine a Carnival Cruise ship operating however, when Carnival released a one-time Greenland cruise onboard Carnival Legend, the head office must have been surprised that the cruise sold out in less than 24 hours.
So much was the demand for the Greenland cruise sailing from Baltimore that Carnival decided to include one more cruise to the wild and remote island. The first cruise that sold out will sail on September 2, 2023, while the second Greenland cruise that Carnival scheduled will sail earlier, on August 13, 2023.

As Larger Ports Announce Plans No Timeline For Cruise Resumptions In Baltimore

The Maryland Port Administration does not have a timeline on when major cruise lines will resume operations out of Baltimore, but cruise industry experts say the companies are more inclined to resume operations out of larger ports first.
Two major cruise ships operate out of the Port of Baltimore: Carnival Cruise Lines Pride and Royal Caribbeans Grandeur of the Seas. In 2020, more than 90 cruises were scheduled to embark out of Baltimore year-round before the pandemic hit.
The port administration is working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and both cruise lines on restart protocols, specifically on issues such as transportation services, lodging and medical care facilities, according to a statement from William P. Doyle, the administrations executive director.
Carnival has announced that the Pride line is on pause through Aug. 31. Royal Caribbean announced that trips on the Grandeur of the Seas will be canceled through August, and it plans to resume its full fleet of ships by the end of the year.
On Saturday, a ship left a port in Fort Lauderdale, the first major cruise line voyage with passengers in more than 15 months.
But where does Baltimore land on the cruise industrys path to reopening? Experts say the small size of the port could result in a longer wait.

Transportation To The Port Of Baltimore
For many people, getting to the port is as simple as hopping in the car and driving to the terminal. With millions living in the area, its a short drive for many that set sail from Baltimore. The port is about an hours drive from Washington, D.C. and roughly two hours from Philadelphia.
Flying in for your cruise? Or maybe you simply dont want to drive? In that case there are a few options to get to the port. Uber and Lyft are perhaps the most convenient option and the cheapest price. As well, taxis are available.
Expect an Uber or Lyft from the airport to cost about $25 each way. Taxi rides run about the same rate.

Why All The Itinerary Changes
Carnival Cruise Line has been making continuous adjustments to itineraries for several months now and just less than a week ago, there were itinerary changes for three Carnival cruise ships. Some ports have implemented new testing requirements for guests, resulting in the cruise line canceling vitis, including at San Juan Puerto Rico.
Carnival Cruise Line Brand Ambassador John heald said,Now if you dont see your cruise there it means either there are no changes. However, for cruises past the next two weeks we have not finalised anything because work continues at the highest levels to see if we can return to places like Grand Cayman etc.
Its also widely known that Grand Cayman has remained closed to cruise ships since the industry-wide pause first started in March 2020. The island planned to welcome its first cruise ship at the end of December 2021, but that call was eventually canceled. Once the Omicron situation is under control, the hope is that cruise ships will be allowed to resume visits to the island.
When it comes to Key West, the cruise destination has been dealing with calls to ban large cruise ships. Carnival Cruise Line has been in talks with local authorities, and it seems that Carnival vessels are staying away until its resolved.
Other port changes could be due to scheduling, port agreements, and timing. The cruise line has also warned guests recently to expect changes in the coming weeks and months, and the situation remains fluid.
Carnival Cruise Ships With Itinerary Changes
Its certainly an evolving time at the moment as some cruise destinations either remain closed to the cruise industry or have implemented new complex requirements for cruise ships. Then there is also Key West, where there are calls to ban large cruise ships once again.
With all that, comes another round of itinerary adjustments for eight Carnival cruise ships. However, the impact is limited to just one sailing each. We take a look at each itinerary change and cover the new schedule for each, starting with the earliest sailing.
Carnival Horizons January 30, 2022 voyage out of PortMiami in Florida has been completely changed due to the removal of the call at Grand Cayman. Ocho Rios in Jamaica and Cozumel in Mexico have also been removed. The ship will now be calling at Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas, Grand Turk in the Turks and Caicos islands and Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic.
Carnival Sunshines January 31 sailing out of Charleston in South Carolina has been adjusted with the cruise line dropping Nassau in the Bahamas. Instead, the ship will be visiting Bimini in the Bahamas and still calling at Princess Cays.
The Carnival Pride, February 5 eight-day sailing out of Tampa, Florida, has dropped the call at Grand Cayman and added Costa Maya in Mexico instead. The original calls to Costa Rica and the partial transit of the Panama Canal will remain.

Remember The Ship May Be Late
It is no fun getting that early morning text from your cruise ship letting you know that the ship will not be arriving on time. Baltimore is one of these ports that may not achieve their early morning docking time. Why? Storms in the Atlantic can slow the ship down. Medical emergencies may divert the ship to another port temporarily. It takes about 10 hours for the ship to go up the Chesapeake Bay area so if they are any delays earlier in the cruise, it cannot make up speed through the bay.

Grandeur Of The Seas Calls Barbados Home
The warm and friendly island of Barbados will be the home for the first ship to resume operations this December. Starting December 5, the Grandeur of the Seas will depart on a series of Southern Caribbean sailings 7- and 14-nights long. Grandeur is the smallest in the Royal Caribbean fleet at 73,817 gross tonnes and the oldest at 25 years.
The 7-night cruises include calls in Trinidad and Tobago, St. Lucia, Grenada, the Grenadines, and more. On the 14-night cruises, which sail on January 9 and February 20, guests will enjoy the Dutch Antilles Cartagena, Colombia Colon, Panama Puerto Limon, Costa Rica and more.
These cruises are available only to those that have been fully vaccinated if they are 12 years or older. Younger guests will need to show a negative PCR test. Thats not all though. While the cruises have fantastic itineraries, on cruises from Barbados in December, all 2,440 guests onboard will need to book a tour if they wish to go ashore in ports of call. Whether guests have been vaccinated or not is irrelevant in this case. Grandeur of the Seas will reposition to Galveston, Texas, in May 2022.

Carnival Cruise Line has made another round of itinerary changes impacting a total of eight vessels due to the removal of calls at Grand Cayman, Puerto Rico and Key West. The changes are limited to just one sailing for each ship.
About The Port Of Baltimore
For those that dont know, the Port of Baltimore has a 300-plus year history. Then known as Whetstone Point, the location was designated as an official Port of Entry in 1706. Combined with five smaller nearby ports, it eventually became the Port of Baltimore and now covers 45 square miles of shoreline.
The cruise terminal is designated as South Locust Point, located not too far away from Baltimores well-known Inner Harbor area, a short drive off I-95, and a 10-minute ride away from BWI Airport. The facility is a converted 65,000 square foot warehouse, which provides paved parking and dredging for larger cruise ships.
A mid-Atlantic seaboard location within driving distance of a major airport makes Baltimore an excellent departure point for a cruise. But, what if you are coming from out of the area? In this case, the Baltimore area has several hotels scattered about, in the city and greater metropolitan area and as far away as Annapolis. Bed-and-breakfasts, independent hotels, and chains all offer a comfortable place to sleep for the night, often with breakfast accommodations in the morning, before you set sail on your cruise. Larger chains, additionally, may offer parking accommodations for your trip or possibly provide shuttle service to the cruise terminal. Inquire, first, as you plan your trip.
