Disney Cruise Line To Resume Passenger Cruises Aug 9

PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. â Disney Cruise Line’s first sailing with passengers since the pandemic shut down the cruise industry will be Aug. 9, with a number of health and safety measures in place, the company said Friday.

What You Need To Know

  • Disney Dream is scheduled to embark on Disney Cruise Line’s first passenger cruise since the industry shut down
  • Passengers are “strongly encouraged” to be fully vaccinated before they go, Disney says on its parks blog
  • They won’t be required to be vaccinated, but if they provide proof, they won’t need to be tested for COVID-19, Disney says
  • Passenger sailings for Disney Cruise Line’s other ships won’t resume before Aug. 28, the company says

Disney Dream is scheduled to depart from Port Canaveral on a trip to Disney’s private Bahamas island, Castaway Cay, Disney said. Three- and four- night cruises will be available.

But “some things will look a bit different for now,” says Disney Signature Experiences President Thomas Mazloum in a YouTube video posted to the Disney Parks blog.

Passengers are “strongly encouraged” to become fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before they go on a Disney cruise, though vaccinations won’t be required on sailings departing from Florida, according to the health and wellness video.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defines a person as “fully vaccinated” against COVID-19 when they’re two weeks past their second dose of a two-dose vaccine or two weeks past a single-dose vaccine.

Ways To Save Money On Your Disney Cruise Line Vacation

Disney Cruise Line – All That’s Included

Beautiful ships, amazing ports of call, world-class service, and kids’ clubs that are second to none are only a few of the reasons that Disney Cruise Line is the most popular cruise line for families. Like most things in life however, with increased popularity comes increased cost. Saving money on a Disney Cruise vacation is challenging, but not impossible. If you put in the effort, and have a little bit of luck, you can save some real money. Here are 11 tips to help you get started!

1) Book early / Rebook onboard

Something all Disney Cruise Line experts already know is that booking your cruise early is going to get you the best price. Disney Cruise Line, like all other cruise lines, uses a tiered pricing system. The tiered pricing system is pretty simple: as the ship fills up, the price for a cabin goes up. A balcony stateroom that starts out at $3500 can jump in price to over $5000 on popular sailings. Disney Cruise Line normally releases their sailings twice a year and when they do, people are up early to book first and get the lowest possible price. Rebooking when you are onboard the ship is another way to cut the cost of your next cruise. Disney typically offers a 10% discount on future sailings when you rebook onboard. They will typically offer a half price deposit on itineraries that are 7 nights or longer. Sometimes though, it’s better to leave it to a professional – which brings me to #2.

2) Use a travel agent

3) Disney Chase Visa

4) The Target gift card trick

West Coast & Mexican Riviera

If you live near the west coast of the United States, you can find Disney cruises out of San Diego to the beautiful resort towns of Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta.

Offered seasonally, these west coast cruises are a popular choice that also include visits to Vancouver, British Columbia and San Francisco.

At Orlando International Airport

If you will be arriving at the Orlando airport the day before your cruise , you might want to consider spending the night before your cruise at Hyatt Regency Orlando Airport.

The Hyatt is an upscale hotel that is actually located in the airport terminal, so you dont have to worry about traveling any further. Just collect your bags, take them up on the elevator, check in and youre ready to start enjoying your vacation! Or, if you prefer, take advantage of their luggage retrieval service for a small flat fee , Hyatt staff will retrieve your luggage from baggage claim and deliver it to your room.

If you stay at the airport Hyatt instead of going all the way out to Walt Disney World, you are much closer to Port Canaveral. That means you can sleep in a little longer before heading off to the ship in the morning. You can choose from multiple dining options within the airport, or take a swim at the hotel. Its great way to start relaxing right away.

The Hyatt has a relationship with Disney, so you can arrange Disney bus transportation to the ship from the hotel . If you arrange your transportation through Disney, your luggage is transported directly to your stateroom on the ship. Talk about convenient!

New Health And Safety Measures

  • Vaccinations are “strongly encouraged” but will not be required on Disney Dream sailings from Florida. Guests who show proof of vaccination can skip required coronavirus testing.
  • Everyone who does not show proof of vaccination must take a coronavirus test before leaving home and at port and have negative results from both tests to board the ship.
  • Face masks will be required in “most indoor public areas” for all guests age 2 and up.
  • Hand sanitizer stations will be located throughout the ship and the cruise line’s private island.
  • Ship capacity will be reduced to allow for more social distancing.

The cruise line said there will be twice-daily stateroom cleanings, new air purification systems and extra attention paid to high-touch surfaces.

“While some things may look a bit different for now, you can rest assured that the dazzling entertainment, impeccable service and attention to detail that have long defined Disney vacations remain the same,” Mazloum said.

Transportation And Parking At The Cruise Ports

Youâve booked your Disney Cruise Vacation! Whatâs next ...

Disneys bus transfers to and from the port are convenient, but also pretty expensive, especially for a family:

Disneys transfers must be booked a minimum of 3 days before the start of the trip through your travel agent . At the airports, a Disney rep will be at the baggage claim area to help direct guests to the bus. Your luggage will go directly to your stateroom you just need take your day bag with you to the cruise terminal.

One down side of using the Disney bus system is that you will arrive at the port with a big group of people and at a time dictated by Disney. The result is often a long wait in the check-in lines. You may also miss lunch on the ship, since the buses tend to arrive in the afternoon.

Below are alternate options that may be cheaper and/or more convenient.

Port Canaveral Shuttle By Happy Limo

Happy Limo, a private car and limo service we have recommended for years, offers a great shared-shuttle option for trips between Orlando International Airport and the Disney Cruise Line terminal at Port Canaveral. The base price per person is less than half of Disneys price at $17/person each way . Tips are at customers discretion . For shared service to Port Canaveral, this is a really good deal.
