Ially Inclusive Lines & Grey
No, not grey-area in terms of legitimacy, but like many things in life, there are some blurry lines here. See, different markets and demographics value a la carte vs inclusive offerings very differently. One example of this is in NCLs UK beverage policy which we mentioned previously. Beyond this however, look no further than suites. Increasingly lines offer ship within a ship experiences for suite guests, which include special areas just for those guests, and often include things like WiFi, specialty dining, alcoholic beverages, and more. Royal Caribbeans Star Class, for example, offers some accommodations which include everything but excursions along with larger rooms, butler service, etc. Doing this makes some of the suite rates you see seem much more reasonable. Norwegian also does things like this, but push hard for bundling of any number of amenities at time of booking. In fact, often with NCL, purchasing a beverage package with your cruise fare can be less than half the price of adding it later. Other lines, like MSC, have similar bundles for certain categories and even loyalty levels.
As mentioned, all inclusive cruising means different things depending on what you want out of your cruise. If you dont drink alcohol, then that is a moot point and doesnt increase the value or appeal of a given cruise. Below are just a few examples of lines which include different things with their fares.

While the abovementioned are the standard inclusions on brands like Norwegian Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, and Carnival Cruise Line, some cruise lines include even more.
For instance, Celebrity Cruises new Always Included pricing structure aims to put the cruise line among luxury brands with an even more all-inclusive feel. This new model now includes a classic beverage package, basic WiFi, and gratuities for all stateroom categories and all itineraries except Galapagos.
This means that Celebrity Cruises standard fare now features unlimited classic cocktails, beer, and wine. Additional drink inclusions are soda, specialty coffee and tea, juices, and bottled water. Further, while most cruise lines charge extra for internet on the ship, Celebrity Cruises provides basic WiFi that is capable of surfing, email, and social media.
Finally, the Always Included pricing also includes daily gratuities. This means that there will no longer be a daily service charge added to your onboard account.
Holland America Line also recently announced all inclusive pricing. The brandsHave It All package includes shore excursions, beverages, specialty dining, and WiFi in one base cruise fare.
The Have It All fare is presented as an option when booking with the included perks already factored into the price. Guests who prefer to cruise without all of the extras still have the option of a standard fare.
Transportation To A Cruise
Cruises as opposed to all-inclusive resort vacations dont necessarily require that you pay to get to your destination via flight unless of course you live nowhere near one of the select port cities that cruises depart from. The lucky few who do live in a city with a cruise terminal will be able to save money in this area, but generally, most people will have to catch a domestic flight to get there. Flights can make your overall vacation more expensive, especially if travelling in a group. Therefore, this is something worth factoring into your decision.

Hidden Fees At An All
Although all-inclusive resorts tend to rely less on upselling their guests than cruise ships, not every all-inclusive resort is equal. Make sure to find out upfront what is included in the booking price, and what is not. If a deal sounds too good to be true, it often is.
Picture: Although Sandals and Beaches Resorts have a no-tipping policy , this can be one of those costs that are not included at an all-inclusive resort.
Verdict on hidden fees: Whether you book a cruise or an all-inclusive resort, youll have to read the fine print to make sure everything is truly included. However, especially cruises are known to make their money by selling upgrades left, right and center. If the website is not giving you this information, its best to reach out to customer service and ask them the following questions before booking:
- Which activities are included, free of charge?
- Is WiFi included ?
- Are tips and taxes included?
- Are all restaurants included and unlimited? What are the opening times? Do the restaurants serve à la carte or buffet?
- Are alcoholic drinks included at any time?
- Are the mini-fridges in the room stocked and free of charge?
- Are airport transfers included?
Excursions That Others May Offer As Optional Fee
All-inclusive river cruise lines will usually offer all excursions ashore on a complimentary basis. Many of these can be quite elaborate, and can represent a significant savings over river cruise lines that offer optional, fee-based tours to far-flung or alternate destinations.
Some all-inclusive river cruise lines also offer some optional shore excursions that carry a per-person charge.
Many all-inclusive river cruise lines also offer complimentary bicycles that are carried aboard your ship for guests to use while ashore. Maps and directions can be provided by the front desk, and together these can make an excellent do-it-yourself shore excursion.

You Dont Have To Pay Gratuities On These 10 Cruise Lines
On most cruise lines an automatic gratuity will be added to your onboard account to cover tips for the staff.
Increasingly cruise lines are including this in the cruise fare. Ive cruised with a number of lines who include gratuities and I much prefer it.

Can You Share Drink Packages On A Cruise
Its tempting with unlimited drinks to do what weve all thought one person buys the package and just gives a drink to the person they are traveling with.
Every cruise line has rules against this. If you are caught, you could lose your drink privilege.
That said, unless you are blatantly ordering drinks and then handing off to other people, its almost impossible for you to be caught sharing drinks. If you are discreet, the chances of your being caught are minimal.
