Local Currency & Tipping Options

Thousands Of Cruise Ship Jobs For T& T Nationals

The local currency in Tobago is the Trinidad and Tobago dollar, or Trinidadian dollar as its sometimes called. For many goods and services, you can also use the US dollar. Credit cards are accepted in larger hotels, restaurants and stores, although smaller beach bars and market vendors usually prefer cash. Make sure to look up local conversion rates in case you are spending TT$, and always ask if an item is priced in local currency before buying. There are ATMs in the main towns, as well as money exchange shops where you can get local currency. Tipping is not common, but a 10% tip on meals or tours is accepted and often very appreciated.

Both of the Trinidad and Tobago cruise ports have tourism information offices, and they can help you arrange onshore tours and excursions. In Port of Spain, its a short walk to the Brian Lara Promenade, where you will find additional tour guides offering their services. While booking an onshore tour on your own is always a possibility, it is often a better idea to book an excursion that is offered by the cruise company. You will sometimes pay a little bit more if you do, but you will also save yourself some time. The excursions offered by the ship are also ideal because they ensure that you will make it back to port on time. You wouldnt want to miss the boat, not that a few extra days in Trinidad and Tobago would exactly be a bad thing.

What Does Epic Carnival Experience Offer

Carnival goers will be able to sail Royal Caribbeans Rhapsody of the Sea from February 16 to 22nd. The ship will act as a hotel for travelers and will sail from Barbados to Trinidad and travelers will have the chance to experience Carnival.

The experience was stated by Trinidadian Jonathan Mack, who now lives in Hawaii.

Mack tells Loop News he was inspired to start Epic Carnival Experience after his wedding in 2014. He was born on a Carnival Monday and is dedicated to promoting Trinidadian culture on a global scale.

I brought 50 people from around the world, US, Israel, Europe, around the world to experience Carnival. I got married the Saturday after Carnival in Tobago. Trying to accommodate 50 people in hotels, Airbnb and whatnot was a nightmare, managing the transportation for 50 people was terrible too on top of which maneuvering in Carnival to get tickets for fetes, events and costumes were its own logistical nightmare so I said damn, we need to come up with a way to accommodate this, Mack tells Loop News.

He was also inspired by the Jamrock Reggae Cruise, which is also held on a Royal Caribbean ship.
