Navigator Of The Seas To Sail From Los Angeles
On Tuesday, Senior Vice President Vicki Freed teased some major Royal Caribbean news for today. And we now know its about the cruise line making its long-awaited return to LA!
Starting in June 2022, Navigator of the Seas will be sailing from the Port of Los Angeles, offering 3-, 4- and 5-night itineraries to Southern California and Baja California, Mexico. The ship will call at the Catalina Islands in California and Ensenada and Cabo San Lucas in Mexico.
There will also be 7-night cruises that will include an overnight in LA, giving cruisers the chance to enjoy the resort city. Royal Caribbean will open up bookings on the week starting March 29, 2021.

Royal Caribbean’s Navigator Of The Seas First Of A Flotilla Of Cruise Ships Returning To Port Of Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES The Royal Caribbean is returning to the Port of Los Angeles for the first time in 10 years.
The Navigator of the Seas arrived Friday to much fanfare for its first passenger sailing out of Los Angeles. The massive cruise ship will leave the Port of Los Angeles with passengers Friday night, not just for the first time since the pandemic — but for the first time in a decade.
The arrival of the Navigator of the Seas which boasts the largest waterslide at sea, a renovated pool deck, and new nightlife venues heralds a new phase of cruise travel for the Port of Los Angeles.
“We will have more than 200 sailings on schedule for 2022, and that’s the most we’ve had since pre-recessionary days,” said Gene Seroka, executive director of the Port of LA.
Royal Caribbean pulled out of Los Angeles years ago due to low demand for its sailings. But when the pandemic shut down the cruise industry entirely, Royal Caribbean reassessed their itineraries and found opportunity in Los Angeles again.
“It’s obvious to recognize that people are excited to be traveling again,” Royal Caribbean Vice President Russell Benford said. “And cruising has proven to be one of the safest options out there.”
The influx of cruise ships is expected to be an economic boon for the Los Angeles waterfront. Port officials say a busy cruise weekend with three or four ships in port can bring as many as 20,000 travelers, generating more than $1 million in economic activity.

Outer Harbor Cruise Terminal
In early-October 2019 were announced plans for the construction of a new cruise port terminal in LA . The “Outer Harbor Cruise Terminal” is adjacent to the Cabrillo Way Marina and a boat repair yard. Currently, the building is used as an event space and only occasionally for berthing of cruise liners.
The new cruise port bidder will upgrade and enlarge terminalâs facilities and berths and will manage the dock/wharf and building’s day-to-day operations.
In January 2020 were officially announced port’s plans for two new terminals – Berth 46 and Berth 50. They both will have capacity to handle ships with LOA length 335 m , max draft capacity 5000 passengers. Both facilities are planned as multifunctional – to double as event spaces housing musical concerts, exhibitions, conferences, etc. By this project, both berths will be upgraded with shoreside power capabilities and dedicated parking areas.
Sailing From The Long Beach Cruise Terminal
Los Angeles while far from being the biggest cruise departure port in the country offers two different cruise ports. The Long Beach terminal is a short distance from the Port of Los Angeles . It serves Carnival Cruise Lines, which primarily sails shorter trips to the Mexican Riviera.
Visitors will also recognize the historic Queen Mary, which is docked permanently at the port. As with the Port of Los Angeles, expect it to take about 30 minutes to an hour to get to the cruise port from the LAX airport, depending on traffic. If flying in, Long Beach Airport is much closer, reducing travel time.

Navigator of the Seas is sailing 3-, 4-, 5-, and 7-day cruises year-round to Southern California and Baja California, Mexico.
Navigator of the Seas is the 17th Royal Caribbean ship to start sailings after the pandemic. The ship has been without guests for 20 months, but has been amplified in 2019, which added several of the features Royal Caribbean is famous for.
Catalina Sea And Air Terminal
Located directly across fromthe Cruise Center, the Catalina Sea and Air terminal mainly offerstransportation to and from Catalina Island. It also has a very large parkinglot, however, and that lot is open for any public use, whether you are usingthe terminal or not.
Like the parking at theBattleship Iowa, the parking at the Catalina Sea and Air Terminal is free forthe first hour, and then costs $2 per hour after that, with a maximum cost of$19 per day. This parking isnt as conveniently located as the Battleship orCruise Center parking, but its still well within walking distance of theCruise Center. If the closer parking lots are full, this is an excellentoption.

World Cruise Center Terminals
The two terminals of World Cruise Center are 18 mi away from LAX , direction South. The first Los Angeles cruise port terminal has two berths 91 and 92. the second one has only one – 93. Two or three larger cruise ships can dock here.

Parking is USD 15 per day . The facilities in the San Pedro terminal include check-in, cafes, bars, shops, parking area, taxi ranks.

Royal Caribbean Back In Los Angeles With Navigator Of The Seas
After more than a decade, Royal Caribbean International is resuming homeport operations in Los Angeles.
Setting sail on its first post-pandemic cruise today, the Navigator of the Seas is marking the companys return to the West Coast with a seven-night cruise from LAs World Cruise Center.
Sailing to three ports in Mexico, the first voyage includes calls in Mazatlán, Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta.
With departures currently scheduled through April 2023, the year-round program also features a variety of short three-, four- and five-night cruises to additional destinations, including Catalina Island, California, and Ensenada, Mexico.
A Voyager-class vessel, the Navigator of the Seas originally entered service in 2002. Extensively refurbished in the past, it drydocked in Cádizs Navantia shipyard this summer for maintenance work and cosmetic enhancements.
The refit follows a bigger, $115-million modernization that took place in 2019, as part of the Royal Amplified program. The refit added new attractions to the 3,500-guest ship, including a resort-style Caribbean pool deck, the three-level signature bar The Lime & Coconut and the first blow-dry bar at sea To Dry For.
One of the vessels most iconic features, the Royal Promenade, was also reimagined, with the creation of new restaurants, retail and nightlife.
The Navigators entertainment lineup also includes the Studio B, an ice-skating rink and the FlowRider surf simulator.
Nd And Miner Streets Lot
If you feel a little nervousabout using a businesss parking lot while youre away on a cruise, check outthe parking lot at 22nd Street and Miner Street. This is a free public parkinglot operated by the City. Its further from the Cruise Center than the otheroptions, but it has easier access to public transportation. You will definitelywant to get a ride from here to the Cruise Center.
On most days, this lot isfree. If theres a major event happening in the area, there may be a $5 fee forthat day, but you would only be charged if you enter the lot on that day.

Returning After A Decade
Royal Caribbeans announcement that it will cruise from Los Angeles regularly after more than a decade is significant, as industry insiders have speculated about its West Coast return for years.
While other cruise lines returned, Royal Caribbean stayed away, claiming it was able to make more money elsewhere.
In 2015, Freed pointed out the low rates competitor cruise lines were getting. We always look at the West Coast. But we continue to look at the rates that the other cruise lines are getting, and we offer an experience that we cant afford to be selling at those low rates.
If and when we see the rates start to bounce back, and we feel we can get paid for what we offer for our product, then well be back there. But right now, unfortunately, its a bath out there. Theyre selling four-day cruises at $199 per person, and were not just talking Carnival.
We spend more on food, more on entertainment and more on our overall onboard experience , and so we cannot be the low-price leader out in any market.
The line also cited the logistical challenges of returning its ships to the West Coast, much of which had to do with the rise of cruise popularity in other areas of the world, such as Europe and China. Sending ships to those locations meant fewer ships to go to other ports.
This Was The Big Announcement
The day before Royal Caribbean revealed its plans to return to Los Angeles, Freed told travel agents to expect a big announcement, referring to it as the news weve all been waiting for.
While cruises from the West Coast are significant, many readers were disappointed the news was not worthy of the hype preceding it.
Because several travel agents reported being told by Royal Caribbean that the big announcement was being delayed or canceled, we suspect that larger news was originally on the docket.
