Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Bliss sails down the LA Waterfront at the Port of Los Angeles.

The Port is forecasting more than 200 sailings during the 2022 calendar year the most since 2008. Vacationers can choose itineraries from 11 unique cruise brands, anchored by the Ports longest-standing cruise partner Princess Cruises, along with Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, which makes its return to the Los Angeles market after a decade.

Luxury cruise lines Oceania, Regent Seven Seas, Viking Cruises, Crystal, Seabourn, Cunard and NYK also have scheduled sailings from the LA Waterfront this coming year.

“Resumption of cruises from the LA Waterfront is not only great news for our cruise partners and local economy, but also the tens of thousands of vacationers who will have a variety of cruise options, itineraries and exciting destinations conveniently accessible from the Port of Los Angeles,” said Christopher Chase, marketing manager at the Port of Los Angeles.

Port Of Los Angeles Forecasts 200

LOS ANGELES â The Port of Los Angeles expects a major return of cruise ship operations next year.

More than 200 sailings are forecast for the 2022 calendar year, the most since 2008, the port said in a statement Wednesday.

The first cruise ship departure from Los Angeles since the coronavirus pandemic shut down the industry occurred when the Grand Princess sailed from the portâs World Cruise Center on Sept. 25.

A busy weekend, with three or four cruise ships in port, may bring as many as 20,000 travelers to the LA Waterfront district and each ship call generates more than $1 million in economic activity, the port said.

Companies scheduled to operate out of Los Angeles include Princess Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Oceania, Regent Seven Seas, Viking Cruises, Crystal, Seabourn, Cunard and NYK.

Los Angeles Port Facilities & Location

Cruises from Los Angeles depart from the Port of Los Angeles World Cruise Center, located south of Los Angeles. The cruise port is roughly a 30-minute drive away from the city center, though travel time fluctuates depending on traffic. Overnight parking and passenger shuttles are available at the terminal.

Cruise ship departs California for first time in 17 months

The second Los Angeles cruise ship terminal is located approx 23 mi away from LAX, and 5 mi away from World Cruise Center Terminals. It was inaugurated in 2003 for Carnival Corporation ships exclusively. The white dome building now houses the cruise terminal .

Facilities here include bars, cafes, restaurants, shops, check-in, parking space, taxi ranks. Long Beach Terminal’s address: is “Port of Long Beach, 231 Windsor Way, Long Beach, CA 90802”. Parking is USD 17 per day .

In October 2016, Carnival Cruise Line signed an agreement with Port Long Beach and with the landlord to expand the “Long Beach Cruise Terminal” facility in order to accommodate larger vessels and enhance terminal operations.

Carnival operates Long Beach terminal since 2003, but using only part of the Geodesic Dome . The new agreement gave the company 100% use of the Dome for its cruise operations.

Construction works started on April 12, 2017. Renovations increased the facility from approx 66,000 to 142,000 ft2 . Following the improvements, Long Beach Cruise Terminal now allows docking of larger-sized vessels and also provides additional space for 2-way passenger shipping operations. This enables embarking passengers to access the facility prior to completion of the previous cruise disembarkation process.

In 2017, Carnival had 3 vessels homeported year-round in LA – Inspiration and Imagination and Miracle .

Royal Caribbean Will Cruise From California For The First Time In A Decade

Royal Caribbean will base a cruise ship in California after a 10-year-long hiatus.

At a webinar on Wednesday, the line announced that recently refurbished Navigator of the Seas will homeport in Los Angeles, beginning next year, offering a series of Mexico sailings.

The voyages will vary in length, featuring three- and four-nighters with calls on Ensenada and Catalina Island five-night cruises visiting Cabo San Lucas and seven-night sailings with stops at Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas.

We are going back to the West Coast, said Vicki Freed, Royal Caribbeans senior vice president of sales and trade support & service. Los Angeles, here we come.

This will be the first time the line has based a ship in the Golden State since back in 2011 due to violence in Mexico and dwindling profits.

Earlier this month, Royal Caribbean Blog speculated that the move was coming after spotting the ship listed on the Port of Los Angeleswebsite. Navigator of the Seas was also blatantly missing from Royal Caribbeans list of upcoming itinerary offerings.

Oddly, the ports website lists Navigator of the Seas sailings beginning as early as September 2021, but Royal Caribbean has said they will run from summer 2022 through spring of 2023.

Outer Harbor Cruise Terminal

In early-October 2019 were announced plans for the construction of a new cruise port terminal in LA . The Outer Harbor Cruise Terminal is adjacent to the Cabrillo Way Marina and a boat repair yard. Currently, the building is used as an event space and only occasionally for berthing of cruise liners.

The new cruise port bidder will upgrade and enlarge terminalâs facilities and berths and will manage the dock/wharf and buildings day-to-day operations.

In January 2020 were officially announced ports plans for two new terminals Berth 46 and Berth 50. They both will have capacity to handle ships with LOA length 335 m , max draft capacity 5000 passengers. Both facilities are planned as multifunctional to double as event spaces housing musical concerts, exhibitions, conferences, etc. By this project, both berths will be upgraded with shoreside power capabilities and dedicated parking areas.
