Royal Caribbean Breaks Ground On New Cruise Terminal Announces Fall 2022 Sail Dates Out Of Galveston

Royal Caribbean recently broke ground on a new cruise terminal slated to debut next fall in Galveston.

The opening of the new, $125 million cruise terminal comes just in time for the new fall 2022 sail dates out of the Texas port announced by the cruise line.

According to CultureMap, the terminal will serve as the homeport for Royal Caribbeans Allure of the Seas, which will sail seven-night western Caribbean itineraries starting November 2022.

Currently, Galveston, the sole cruise port in Texas, houses Royal Caribbeans Independence and Liberty of the Seas.

This new cruise terminal is a game-changer, said Rodger Rees, Galveston Wharves port director and CEO, according to CultureMap. This much-anticipated project will bring 800 new jobs, $1.4 billion in local business services revenue, $5.6 million in state and local taxes, and incredible business development opportunities.

According to CultureMap, the new cruise terminal will boast modern technological features such as mobile check-in and facial recognition.

    Norwegian Cruise Line To Bring Its Prima Ship To Galveston

    GALVESTON, Texas Norwegian Cruise Line is bringing its newest ship to Galveston with cruises starting in 2022.

    The ship called the Norwegian Prima will begin with two roundtrip western Caribbean voyages from Galveston: a three-day cruise on Oct. 27, 2022, and a four-day cruise on Oct. 31, 2022 — part of the new ships inaugural year sailing bucket-list itineraries, Houston Business Journal reported, citing Norwegian.

    Starting in the winter season 2023 and 2024, the ship will homeport out of Galveston, offering seven-day voyages to the western Caribbean out of Galveston. The ship will call to Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico Harvest Caye, a private island in Belize and Roatan Island, Honduras.

    The ship is 965 feet long, more than 142,000 gross tons and able to accommodate 3,215 guests at double occupancy, according to the cruise line.

    The company touted its entertainment options onboard in a news release about the ship, including a three-level go-kart racetrack called Prima Speedway.

    The ship will sail on its maiden voyage on Aug. 17, 2022, on an itinerary from Amsterdam, the Netherlands, to Reykjavik, Iceland, with stops in Zeebrugge, Bergen, and Geiranger in Norway, and Akureyri and Isafjordur in Iceland, according to Cruise Hive.

    The Disney Wonder headed out on its first cruise in over 18 months from San Diego, California this past Friday! It will spend a few weeks offering cruises from San Diego, California before departing on a 14-night Panama Canal Cruise and then it will return to its home port of Galveston, Texas for cruises beginning November 19, 2021.

    Once it returns to Galveston next month, it will offer Western Caribbean sailings of a few different lengths that include stops at Cozumel and Costa Maya, Mexico.

    While the Disney Wonder might be back in action and sailing from Galveston once again, a few of her scheduled itineraries have been changed:

    • The scheduled 6-night cruises departing on November 23, December 23, and December 30, 2021 will now stop at Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico instead of stops at Key West, Florida and Disneys Castaway Cay.
    • The 6-night Disney Wonder sailing on December 21, 2021 will now stop at Progreso, Mexico in lieu of George Town, Grand Cayman.
    • The 6-night cruise scheduled to depart on January 14, 2022 will now visit Cozumel, Mexico and George Town, Grand Cayman instead of Key West, Florida and Disneys Castaway Cay.

    If you choose to keep your sailing as booked, even with the modified itineraries, Disney Cruise Line is offering each stateroom a $400 non-refundable onboard credit.

    Norwegian Prima Will Have Largest Racetrack On The Ocean

    GALVESTON, Texas A new Norwegian Cruise ship with the largest racetrack on the ocean is going to be sailing from Galveston in late 2023.

    The Norwegian Prima is the first of six ships in the Norwegian Cruise Lines Prima Class and its set to embark on its maiden voyage next summer.

    The massive boat is 965 feet long and can accommodate 3,215 guests at double occupancy, according to a press release.

    In addition to the ships three-level racetrack, there will also be a 10-story, freefall dry slide called The Drop where guests will reach the highest G-forces of any cruise line, NCL officials said.

    Two escape rooms, a Topgolf Swing Suite, mini-golf course, aqua park with Tidal Wave waterslide and infinity hot tubs will also be featured on the Norwegian Prima.

    NCL officials report that the Norwegian Prima will be the only vessel offering 7-day voyages to the Western Caribbean out of Galveston during the winter 2023-2024 season.

    Ports of call for the Galveston voyages include Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico, Harvest Caye in Belize and Roatan in the Bay Islands.
