Helpful Tips For England Cruises

Cruise ships dock in San Diego

The England cruise itinerary you should choose depends on what ports of call you want to visit and what else you want to experience on your cruise. All of our cruises to England include additional countries, whether theyre located in the United Kingdom or beyond.

For Liverpool, you can take a transatlantic cruise from Florida to Dublin, Ireland, that stops at Liverpool as well as the gorgeous Azores islands along the way. Most of our Ireland cruise also stop in Liverpool.

If youre lusting after seeing the white cliffs of Dover, look for cruise itineraries that sail from Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Many of these stop in Dover before or after visiting other ports of call around the British Isles before returning to Amsterdam. Our Ireland, England, and Scotland cruise itineraries on Celebrity Reflection that sail from Dublin also usually make a port of call stop in Dover.

Depending on your England cruise itinerary you may visit only Liverpool or Dover, but if youre looking for more English ports of call, our British Isles Cruises out of Amsterdam nearly always visit both Liverpool and Dover. On these itineraries youll also occasionally find an additional port of call in Portland, located in the county of Dorset on Englands southwest coast.

Cruises to England typically sail during the spring and summer months. Pack accordingly for a rainy climate, though you should expect some sunshine and warm weather during that time as well.

Which Southampton Cruise Terminal Does My Cruise Company Use

The four cruise terminals are managed by Southampton Port Authority. It is they who decide which cruise ship will use which terminal, not the cruise companies. Only one cruise ship can occupy a terminal and the same cruise company doesn’t always use the same terminal. Occasionally a fifth terminal is needed at Southampton, when this happens it’s located between the City and Mayflower terminals.

To check which cruise terminal your ship is scheduled to dock at you should refer to the official Southampton ports website. This lists which vessel is in port each day and which cruise terminal they are booked into, along with their scheduled arrival and departure times.

Knowing which terminal you are using can also assist with pre booking your Southampton long term cruise parking.

    Where Is Southampton Cruise Port

Southampton cruise port is 80 miles southwest of London on the south coast of England. The port waters are sheltered as it sits at the confluence of two rivers: the Itchen and the Test, which merge into Southampton Water. The port is about 5 miles from the Solent, a stretch of water lying between the Isle of Wight and the UK mainland.

This unusual location with its distorted tidal flow means that Southampton Water has a double high tide, a big asset when moving large ships in and out of harbour. This also means that every vessel must have a local pilot onboard when entering and leaving Southampton Water.

The port has excellent road and rail links to major cities all over the UK.

Greenwich Cruise Terminal At Enderby Wharf

Cruise ships dock amidst CDC warnings

In July 2015 were approved the plans for building a new cruise terminal at Enderby Wharf. These plans were hugely controversial due to residents’ concern that larger ships will generate air pollution as they are powered by dirtier fuels . So the plans were upgraded by adding shore-to-ship power capabilities to the new terminal facility. Shore-To-Ship power technology enables docked vessels to receive electricity from the city’s power grid. From the berth, vessels can plugin directly to the grid which allows full onboard operations without using diesel engines.

The facility will become London’s first new shipping terminal since Royal Docks’ closure in 1981. It will allow cruise vessels with LOA length up to 820 ft to dock close to city’s popular tourist attractions Cutty Sark and Old Royal Naval College .

The new plans were submitted in 2015 by Westcourt Real Estate . The terminal building’s size was increased to accommodate baggage handling for embarking/disembarking passengers. Construction works started in September 2015, with scheduled completion in 2018.

London Enderby Wharf port development project also includes the building of 1154 residential homes. Statistics show that Greenwichs Royal Borough receives millions of visits each year, supports around 16000 jobs and contributes GBP 1,1 billion to London’s economy. The new cruise ship terminal would bring thousands of visitors, thus boosting the city’s tourism.
