The newest ship, debuting in December 2018, Nieuw Statendam solo cabins will be ocean view and artfully inspired. With only twelve single cabins, it will probably be the first to sell out. Holland America has an older demographic sailing so it will be interesting to see how these solo cabins do with older or younger travelers especially on a cruise to Alaska. The average space is larger than most at 127-172 sq. ft. but have a twin bed. I liked that on Holland America each cabin gets a plush robe to use as well as a daily fruit basket .

The first among the lines with studios is NCL, and the market’s best “no single supplement ship” is Norwegian Epic. Epic’s “Studios Staterooms” were specially designed and priced for solo travelers and are sizes 9 m2 . Exclusively for solo passengers, Epic has “Studios Lounge”. Reducing the ship’s topdecks weight is an important issue for naval architects as the trend for building large-capacity cruise vessels continues. The new module’s halved weight opens up opportunities for adding more passenger rooms to newbuild ships, without adding to the ship’s DWT weight.

Single cruise supplement is offered by virtually all the lines/operators, but the cheapest rates are on ships with “single cabins” . Cheap “solo cruise deals” could be also offered as a bonus, cabin upgrade, special offers, part of a group booking, etc.
Single supplement rates depend on company and ship – between 110% and 200%, meaning you’re paying from 55% to 100% of the full cabin fare. Some major lines offer “single shares” – for solo passenger who agrees to share the stateroom with another passenger. The all-inclusive companies Crystal Cruises and Silversea have had single supplement rates, respectively 125% and 110%, but their ships sail on longer and more expensive voyages.
Less popular for solo travelers cabin categories may offer very reasonable affordable single supplement rates in the range of 150-160% compared to 2-per-cabin rates. At the same time, popular among singles categories have their rates increased. Generally, taxes/fees are no more than they usually are. According to numerous reviews, currently Royal Caribbean and NCL offer industry’s best single cruise supplement rates, but this is not a rule – and not on every voyage. As numbers, Royal Caribbean single deals are only around USD 40 more than double occupancy rate. NCL’s single supplement rates vary between 0-200%. If there is one addition Im excited for its the Celebrity Edge ship, debuting in December 2018, with 16 Edge Verandah solo cabins. The category code is much higher than the normal inside cabin be warned as they are verandah level. Located on forward deck 6, there are 16 solo cabins that look fabulous . With approximately 142 sq. ft. which includes balcony, these will be an indulgence for the luxury solo traveler.
Celebrity is a favorite line because of the wellness spa menus, entertainment and self-service wine kiosks sadly they dont offer solo cabins on their other ships. I sailed solo on the Celebrity Constellation Connie from Istanbul to visit Turkey and the Greek Islands. It was a fantastic first cruise on Celebrity.

While solo cruise cabin inventory is still relatively limited today, the concept was virtually nonexistent in the mainstream cruise industry as recently as 2010, when Norwegian Cruise Line stepped in to pioneer a major presence of dedicated solo cabins onboard Norwegian Epic. Today, solo traveler-favorite Norwegian remains at the forefront of the movement with the most solo cruise cabin offerings of any cruise line, spread out across four of its ships. Passengers get design-savvy cabins for one — dubbed “studios” — as well as the industry-exclusive extra of a shared solo travelers lounge, allowing for easy socializing between solo travelers onboard.
Tammy Weiler, President of Singles Travel International, which specializes in booking Norwegian studio cabins, has sung the line’s praises, stating that despite the cabins’ tight quarters, “the layout is cleverly designed so that the size does not matter.” She applauded the solo lounge concept, too, with its “special studio concierge to facilitate a basic agenda for singles.” She adds, “They organize a nightly happy hour, make show and specialty dining reservations, and host some Q& A time in the lounge with drinks, coffee and snacks. Inside Cabins On Cruise Ships
Inside cruise ship cabins’ best feature is their price – you book them with the line’s cheapest rates available. These cruise accommodations don’t offer window views. Still, on some of the newest cruise ships of Royal Caribbean and Disney, there are categories Interior staterooms with a “virtual window”, which is a large LED screen displaying outside cam views. The screen doesn’t have TV functions.
On some Carnival ships, there are Inside cabins with a “French Balcony” . Also, some “interior staterooms” are actually Oceanview , but since their views are obstructed, they are booked as Interior. On Royal Caribbean ships, some Inside cabins have a window looking out to the ship’s interior promenade

Cunards Oceanview Britannia Single Staterooms
Three ships in Cunards fleet offer solo cabins, but only one the iconic Queen Mary 2, which most often sails transatlantic voyages between London and New York has 15 that feature ocean views. The lines Britannia Single staterooms are anywhere from 178 to 183 square feet in size, and they include large windows and single beds.
Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria each have nine single staterooms, but theyre a mix of oceanviews and insides with no view at all.
