Can A Child Fall Overboard On A Cruise Ship

How Does BINGO Work on a DiSNEY CRUiSE?

When parents book a cruise with family members of all ages such as a Disney Cruise, they may be concerned about safety for the little ones, especially if it is their first family cruise. One family was concerned about their active toddler who was constantly “climbing out of his crib, up stairs, up on top of furniture, and basically into trouble all the time.” They wondered if he would be safe on an upcoming Disney Cruise. The mom had heard about adults falling overboard on cruise ships and was afraid this active toddler might fall, too.

Family travel experts suggest starting with a reality check. While grown-ups have been known to fall off cruise ships, and it’s always a big news story when it happens, it’s also an extremely rare occurrence. And that’s because it’s really, really hard to fall overboard without doing it intentionally or being extremely reckless.

July 23 – Walt Disney Co’s cruise division said on Friday it would start operations from U.S. ports again next month, following a months-long pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Disney Dream will depart from Port Canaveral, Florida on Aug. 9 to the Bahamas, with passengers over 12 years of age requiring a valid travel insurance policy that has a certain minimum coverage and no COVID-19 exclusions, the unit said.

The cruise operator said in a blog that it had enhanced its health and safety measures, nearly a month after it postponed its first test cruise on inconsistent COVID-19 test results from a few crew members. read more

Disney Cruise Line also said it does not require vaccinations for guests on sailings departing from Florida, but added that it strongly encouraged all eligible guests to get inoculated.

Florida state law expressly prohibits cruise lines from requiring documentation of COVID-19 vaccines. read more

Cruise operators Royal Caribbean Group and Carnival Corp have already started sailing from U.S. ports.

The Wish Will Also Have Disney Cruise Line’s First Two

Disney resorts offer a range of luxurious accommodations, such as Disney World’s Cinderella Castle, and it appears that the exclusive two-story suites on the Wish ship will be no exception.

The Princess Aurora Royal Suites and Briar Rose Royal Suites, which are both themed to Disney’s “Sleeping Beauty,” each have two master bedrooms, living and dining areas, floor-to-ceiling windows, stained-glass artwork, a private hot tub on the veranda, according to Disney.

The Wish’s third two-story suite, called the Wish Tower Suite, is also Disney Cruise Line’s first suite located inside the ship’s funnel. The Wish Suite has nearly 2,000 feet of living space and is themed around the 2016 Disney movie “Moana.”

Carnival Says It Does Enough

Broward Mayor Geller said he wants the port to get that data. Still, he said, cruise lines cant hide a major outbreak. Thanks to social media, we would know about it, he said.

Carnival Cruise Line communications director Chris Chaimes declined to explain why the company will not publicly release numbers of infected passengers and crew members.

He disputed the CDCs statement that orange or yellow color status identifies ships with reported infections. Sometimes they are color coded on the CDC site and under investigation because we have reported of guests or crew. Yellow or orange doesnt always mean a COVID case, he said.

Carnival, he said, fulfills its obligations under CDC guidelines by reporting infection data as required to public officials and keeping onboard guests informed. Crew members and guests who test positive and their close contacts are quarantined, regardless of vaccination status, he said.

We are implementing protocols that exceed the CDCs guidelines and will continue to adapt and evolve our procedures to respond to the public health situation, he said.

That doesnt go far enough for Leslie Wolowitz, who isnt sure he wants to cruise again after the couples close encounter aboard the Celebrity Edge.

What Do We Know About The New Disney Cruise Ships

How many new Disney Cruise Ships will there be?

In 2016, Disney Cruise Line announced they would be building two more ships. Then, in 2017, they added a new release to that announcement, with a third ship to be built at the same time.

We pride ourselves on the unforgettable vacation experiences we deliver to our guests every day, and the expansion of our Disney fleet will allow us to create even more magical memories for families at sea and in incredible cruise destinations around the world.Robert Iger, Disney CEO, March 2016

When will the new Disney Cruise ships be completed?

The original schedule called for the completion of one ship every year for the years of 2021, 2022, and 2023. This schedule was altered to adjust to global conditions in 2020 and 2021. Exact new release schedule has not been released for all three ships, but here’s what we know:

These three new vessels will join Disney Wonder, Disney Magic, Disney Dream, and Disney Fantasy in the DCL fleet.

The first of the three ships to be completed will be the Disney Wish and it will be finished at the end of 2021, with an anticipated first voyage in summer 2022.

What will the new ships look like?

Here is an early artist rendering of the new Disney Cruise ships.

While we don’t yet have any specifics, the interior of each ship is expected to maintain the feel of “the golden age of ocean cruising”. The existing ships in the fleet are decorated in Art Deco or Art Noveau styles.

Disney Cruise Line Fleet

While it may be a household name, Disney Cruise Line is actually a very small line. It currently has just four ships actively in the fleet, compared to 26 over at Royal Caribbean.

Out of the four, there are two smaller ships and two larger ones.

The largest two ships in Disneys fleet are the Disney Dream and the Disney Fantasy, at 1,115 feet in length and 14 decks high. These two ships have a passenger capacity of 4,000 people spread out across 1,250 staterooms. The overwhelming majority of cabins on these ships have an ocean view or verandah with only 12% being interior staterooms .

The Dream is a workhorse of short three- and four-night sailings from Port Canaveral, Florida, to the Bahamas, home to Disneys private island, Castaway Cay. The Fantasy also normally calls Port Canaveral home but does various longer Caribbean sailings.

The smaller two ships in the Disney Cruise Line lineup are the Disney Wonder and the original ship in the fleet, the Disney Magic. These two ships are 984 feet long and 11 decks high, and each has the capacity for 2,713 passengers across 875 staterooms. On these two smaller ships, 70% of passenger cabins have ocean views or verandahs.

Disneys Wonder and Magic usually get around a bit more than the larger two ships. Depending on the time of year, you might find the Wonder sailing out of places such as Galveston, Texas New Orleans California or Alaska. The Magic can often be found in Miami, New York, Canada and Europe.

Disney may be a giant in the vacation business, thanks to its many theme park and resort complexes around the world. But in the world of cruising, its a relatively small player.

Disneys 23-year-old cruising arm, Disney Cruise Line, only operates four vessels a small fraction of the number youll find in the fleets of cruisings best-known brands. The worlds two biggest cruise lines, Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Line, by comparison, have 25 and 24 ships in their fleets, respectively. MSC Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line have 18 and 17 ships, respectively.

What this means if youre thinking about going on a Disney cruise is that its relatively easy to get a handle on your ship options much easier than it is at a line like Royal Caribbean.

At first blush, you only have to figure out the differences between four different ships. But, in fact, its even easier than that. While Disney has four ships in its fleet, the four vessels can be bunched into just two groups of two similar vessels. If you know one member of the group, you know them both.

Cruise Ships Have Reported Covid

Good luck if youd like to know how many people infected with COVID-19 are coming into South Florida seaports aboard cruise ships.

Cruise lines and government agencies are not making that data publicly available as the cruise industry resumes operations from U.S.-based ports. Critics who want to see more transparency say cruise consumers and community members deserve to know how successful cruise lines are at preventing spread of the virus.

Twenty-seven ships that currently operate or will be operating in U.S. waters have reported COVID-19 infections to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention since cruising resumed this summer, according to the CDCs website on Saturday.

Of the 27 ships, 14 are sailing with passengers. Ten have not yet returned to passenger service and are operating with crew members only, and three have undertaken only simulated or test cruises required by the CDC for ships that plan to sail with more than 5% of unvaccinated passengers.

Forty ships monitored by the CDC have reported no infections, but the CDC doesnt post the number of infections found aboard the others.

It fell to the Tourism Board of Belize last Wednesday to confirm 27 cases aboard a Carnival Cruise Line ship, the Carnival Vista, that was scheduled to return to the Port of Galveston over the weekend. Twenty-six of those infected are crew members and one is a passenger, the Central American nation said in a news release on Wednesday.

Coffee Shops And Snack Shops

Whats interesting about a Disney Cruise is that the snacks and pastries youll see in the coffee shop or kiosk are all included, but the specialty coffee will cost a little extra.

Drink prices are roughly similar to Starbucks, if not a notch lower. Be sure and ask for the Cafe Fanatic card if youre a regular as your sixth drink will be free.

In addition to the included ice cream, your ship may have some shops with ice cream that costs extra. This can get confusing to kids, so I want to warn you a bit ahead of time. On the Dream youll find Vanellopes, which is stuffed with candies, gelato and ice cream all for an extra charge.

Theres a juice bar on the Dream and Fantasy, but know that it also costs extra.
