Which Company Owns Your Favorite Cruise Line

Head to the grocery store and you might be surprised that a number of your favorite brands are actually owned by much larger companies.

For instance, Ben & Jerrys ice cream is actually owned by Unilever. Tide laundry detergent is owned by Procter & Gamble. Kool-Aid is owned by Kraft.

Its the same thing for automobiles. Acura is part of Honda. Lexus is part of Toyota. And Audi is part of Volkswagen.

Believe it or not, its a similar model in the cruise business. Three major companies: Carnival Corporation, Royal Caribbean Cruises LTD., and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings LTD., own the majority of lines out there.

Below, weve put together an infographic that shows exactly which cruise lines are owned by which companies. Check it out:

Who Owns Princess Cruise Lines

It was previously a subsidiary of P& O Princess Cruises, and is currently under Holland America Group within Carnival Corporation & plc, which holds executive control over the Princess Cruises brand. The line has 18 ships cruising global itineraries that are marketed to both American and international passengers.

American Cruise Lines Ceo Talks American Melody Return To Cruising

When American Cruise Lines became the first to resume operation in the U.S.A this past March 13th, it marked an important milestone for not just the cruise line, but the industry itself. Now, a few months later, more ships are starting up all over the country and many bear the American Cruise Lines name.

Porthole Cruise and Travel Magazine founder and Editor-in-Chief Bill Panoff spoke with American Cruise Lines President and CEO Charles B. Robertson about their resumption of service, the brand new ship in their fleet and why an American river cruise is a preferable vacation option right now.

American Cruise Lines Ceo Details Continued Expansion Plans

The CEO and President of American Cruise Lines, Charles B. Robertson, has announced the companys continued expansion plans with new boats, itineraries, and health protocols.

While the operators ships remain inactive due to the recent CDC No Sail order extension, American has not had an idle year, Robertson said in a Monday press conference.

The two new riverboats announced are the American Jazz and the American Melody, which will both sail on the Mississippi River.

This will give us 14 ships operating in more than 30 states from coast to coast, the CEO said.

Robertson also promised three new itineraries for 2021: the Cape Codder, the Music Cities cruise, and the Alaskan Explorers cruise.

The Cape Codder will be visiting a variety of small New England ports, including an exclusive partnership with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. The Music Cities cruise draws on American musical influences as it cruises from Nashville to Memphis. While the 11-day Alaskan Explorers cruise will visit more Alaskan ports than weve ever been to before including spending two days in Glacier Bay, Robertson said.

Fifty new shore experiences have also been announced by American.

While the company has come up with many exciting plans for the future, they do not lose sight of the present, Robertson said.

He explained that since spring 2020, the cruise operator adopted the slogan of ready to operate, prepared to wait.

    No Vaccine Mandate On Board

Other than some select cruises in Alaska, American Cruise Lines doesnt currently have a fleet-wide vaccine mandate on board their ships. Robertson was asked what the embarkation process was like for unvaccinated guests.

We very, very strongly encourage the vaccine. Lets be clear about that first. Weve been running between 95 and 100% vaccinated by default but in those cases where a guest is unvaccinated, they have to take a PCR test before they travel and send us the negative results and theyre included with all the other guests who have to take at the gangway before they board the ship. So theyre still double testing if theyre unvaccinated, said Robertson.

Who Owns My Cruise Line A Guide To Cruise Line Parent Companies

If you’re confused about which companies own which cruise lines, you’re not alone. There are so many brands these days, it can be difficult to keep track of which ones are part of the same family. You might even be surprised to discover that budget-friendly lines and super-pricey luxury lines share the same parent companies.

When it comes to ownership, most cruise lines — with the notable exceptions of MSC Cruises, which is privately owned by the family of Italian billionaire Gianluigi Aponte Viking Cruises, which is privately held and overseen by founder Torstein Hagen and Windstar Cruises, owned by Xanterra Parks and Resorts, a division of the Anschutz Company — are publicly traded, which means they are owned by their parent companies’ shareholders. Below, we break down which cruise line parent companies own which cruise line brands, as well as where those parent companies are domiciled. We also list the stock symbols and presidents or CEOs for each.

Shore excursion sizes have been reduced, and coaches will be operated at reduced capacity to ensure distancing. Cabins on board have been kept aside for isolation if need be. Each cabin has its own HVAC system, and there is no shared air. The second departure for the line will be on its 2021 newbuild American Jazz, sailing on the Lower Mississippi River from New Orleans to Memphis. That trip departs Sunday. American Cruise Lines is also one of the few small ship lines that will be able to sail in Alaska this summer, given that they don’t need to stop in Canada to satisfy the Passenger Vessel Services Act. That season begins in early June.

The board of directors of American Cruise Lines, Guilford, Conn., announced Monday that Charles B. Robertson will be appointed as the companys new chief executive officer , effective immediately. The appointment follows the recent death of Robertsons father, Charles A. Robertson, who was the companys founder, chairman, and chief executive.

My father was a visionary and pioneer of the cruise industry, and it is an honor to lead the organization he created, Robertson said in a prepared statement. My brothers and I have followed in his footsteps and will remember him as a tremendous leader, mentor, and father. We have prudently worked toward this transition, and with the support of our executives and employees, will continue our dedication to our guests and commitment to growth.

Charles B. Robertson joined American Cruise Lines in 2003 and was named a vice president in 2014. His direction at the company has been instrumental to Americans recent growth. Both his leadership and history with the Line make him ideally suited to the chief executive role, the statement said.

American Cruise Lines American Queen Steamboat Co Are First Lines To Resume Sailing In Us Waters

Two U.S. small ship lines are quietly resuming cruising this weekend, marking the first 2021 sailings back on the water and among the few that have cruised at all in North America since the global pandemic shut down cruising last March.

Both lines, American Queen Steamboat Co. and American Cruise Lines, have ships that are small enough to bypass the current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention orders against sailings. The lines are also American flagged, with American crew, and are thus able to sail in American waters without a stop in Canada or another foreign port.

Because their size gives them more flexibility, both lines had made plans to return to service at various points in 2020, but the unpredictability of the pandemic quashed those efforts.

The only cruises that sailed last year in North America were a few voyages on the St. Lawrence River in Canada by St. Lawrence Cruise Lines a truncated Maine summer and fall season on two schooners, Stephen Taber and Ladona and an attempt at a Caribbean season out of Barbados by SeaDream Yacht Club, which was cut short by COVID-19 cases. Here is the return plan for both lines:
