What’s causing this? + Why is my Cruise Control light flashing at the same time?

The check engine light is there to help you, and you need to listen to it. It is a clear sign that your car’s ECU has discovered a problem with the functionning of your car and wants to communicate it with you in the form of a code. There are approximatively 196 different codes availlable on your Subaru, each leading you or your mechanic down the path of a different diagnostic procedure. The cruise control light flashing does not mean anything more and is just an additionnal attempt at getting your attention on all 2005 and newer Subarus.

What can I do?

How do I turn it off?’

  • Fix the problem and then delete the code with an OBDII reader.
  • Clearing a code can make the diagnostic a lot harder, make sure you have all the informations before doing so.

Is It Safe To Drive With Cruise Control Light Flashing

When your cruise control light starts to flash, but everything else is working perfectly, it is safe to continue driving your vehicle as long as you dont activate the cruise system.

When a fault is detected, it primarily affects the cruise control system only. However, some defects can sometimes cause problems with other vehicle driving systems.

For instance, a falling brake switch will not light up the brake lights when you press the brake pedal to alert those driving behind you, which increases the probability of collision. It is always recommended to take the car for a check-up to fix any problems and avoid risk.

A Problem With Plug Wires

A problem with plug wires can also make the check engine light come on and consequently cause a flashing light in the cruise control system.

The plug wires supply the spark plugs with voltage, which will, in turn, ignite the air and fuel in the combustion chamber, thus making the engine run.

Therefore, if the plug wires malfunction, the engine will supply low power to the Subaru car. The check engine will sense this problem and alert you by turning on its light.

If the flashing light or the check light is accompanied by reduced speed, it is more likely that the plug wires are faulty.

You can then check the plug wires to confirm that they are causing the issue. If your findings are positive, it would be best to replace them since worn plug wires are difficult to repair.

A Problem With The Solenoid Valves

Your cars engine has solenoid valves that control the flow of fluids such as oil. It does so by providing the pressure that pumps the fluid.

These solenoid valves can malfunction due to low fluid or extreme electric current. They will cause the check engine to come on when faulty, making the cruise control light flash.

Try topping up the fluid to its correct amount to sort out this problem.

But if the solenoid valves have malfunctioned due to electric spikes, the only way to resolve the issue is by replacing the damaged components.

Can anyone recommend a mechanic to read the codes for me in SB County? Or should I take it to the dealer in either Ventura or SLO? Any advice would be appreciated.Thanks-

What Does The Subaru Check Engine Light Mean

When a Subaru On-Board Diagnostic detects a problem with the engine, emission system, or transmission, it triggers the check engine light. The OBD system then stores a fault code in the memory, which you can retrieve with an OBD-II scanner.

The Subaru check engine light is sometimes accompanied by a flashing Cruise Control or Vehicle Dynamics Control light. It doesnt mean that there is a problem with these systems. It simply means that they are disabled due to the engine problem.

Can I Reset Cel By Disconnecting The Battery

You may have been told to disconnect the battery negative terminal to turn off the Subaru check engine light for a few minutes.

While this procedure will turn off your Subaru check engine light, it is not recommended because it clears codes that help diagnostics.

Also, disconnecting the battery does not fix the problem. Sure your check engine light will reset, but if no codes are still active, the light will reset within two to three daysno need to disconnect the battery.

Also, remember that your Subaru check engine light will return if the problem hasnt been fixed. If you recently disconnected the battery or cleared the codes with an OBD2 scanner, you will not pass a state emission test. Fix the underlying problem, then drive the car for a few days before taking your Subaru for a smog test.

product

The Subaru models have been designed to alert you whenever there is a problem with the powertrain system.

Therefore, a failing catalytic convertor usually makes the cruise control light flash. In most cases, this light is accompanied by a check engine light coming on.

Many things can make the catalytic converter fail. They include a failing fuel injector, wrong fuel mixture, a problem with the check valve, an issue with the oxygen sensor, etc.

So, it would be best to diagnose the exact problem first before deciding to replace or repair it.

Subaru Cruise Control Light Is Flashing Possible Causes

Driving for a long distance on a long journey can be tiring as you keep pressing the accelerator pedal. Cruise control is a system that helps drivers to get less fatigue when driving for long distances by regulating the engine to maintain your car driving at a set speed.

Pressing a cruise control switch activates it, taking over your accelerator to maintain the speed you choose. This means you wont have to keep pressing the accelerator, giving you rest when cruising for long trips. Advanced adaptive cruise control uses front sensors to detect cars ahead and maintain a safe distance. Here is a look at the possible causes and solutions of the Subaru cruise control light blinking.

The cruise control system can also have problems. The issue is very common in Subaru cars and most drivers most often reported a blinking cruise control light on the cars dashboard.

Dealer Review:

My wife and I were looking for a Chevy Traverse since last October. My wife had her heart set on the Redline edition. We either couldn’t find one in stock, or the dealerships that did have them were asking thousands of dollars over MSRP. Some dealerships were marking them up as high as 10k over MSRP. We were very discouraged. Finally we came across Autonation Chevrolet in Valencia, CA. Dan was our salesman and in all honestly he was such a blessing. He was super knowledgeable about the vehicle and went out of his way to make sure we had a easy pleasurable buying experience, and most importantly that we got all the discounts we qualified for. We drove out of there in our new Redline Traverse and payed 1,500 under MSRP. I was absolutely amazed! If you’re looking for a new vehicle, check out Autonation Chevrolet in Valencia and make sure you ask for Dan the man!

Can A Loose Gas Cap Trigger Check Engine Light

2015 Subaru WRX Check Engine light with Flashing Cruise control FIXED

When your Subaru check engine light comes on, you should first tighten the gas cap. You can continue driving only if there are no other symptoms.

If the gas cap is not tight, it could vaporize from the fuel tank to escape, which triggers the check engine light.

If your Subaru check engine light doesnt turn off after a few days, the next step would be to read the fault codes via the OBD-II port under the dashboard.

Replace the gas cap if the seal shows cracks.

Dont worry, Ive got you covered!

An illuminated check engine light is a sign of something wrong with your Subarus engine. When this happens, the cruise control light will start flashing as the vehicle will disable this function automatically. The traction control may also be disabled.

You need to get to the root problem immediately to prevent any further damages to the vehicle. These are the two situations you may encounter:

  • Check engine light and cruise control light is flashing
  • A solid check engine light and a flashing cruise control
  • Why Does A Flashing Cruise Control Light Come In Subaru Cars

A flashing cruise control light in Subaru cars could indicate various mechanical issues with the vehicle, such as damage to the engine because of misfires, a loose gas cap, or a faulty speed sensor.

The cruise control light is situated on the instrument panel on the vehicles dashboard. When the cruise control light is white, it indicates that the cruise control system is well set but not activated. When activated, the cruise control light illuminates green.

Older Subarus have a green connector under the dash meant to be disconnected. Connecting it will send the car into a so-called test mode.

A check engine light will flash rapidly, but no codes will be stored. Also, engine cooling fans will be turned off and on.

Newer Subarus dont have this connector. Instead, there is an empty fuse slot in the engine compartment. Test mode is activated by installing a fuse is installed into this slot.

How To Diagnose Subaru Check Engine Light

2006 Subaru Tribecca, B9 Check engine light on, traction control light ...

Read the fault codes to find out why the check engine light stays. Use an OBD-II Scanner to read the fault codes.

  • Plugin your scanner under the OBD-II port on the dashboard .
  • Turn on the ignition but do not start the engine.
  • Allow your scanner to communicate with the On-Board Diagnostic system.
  • Select READ CODES on your scanner to retrieve stored codes.
  • After fixing the underlying problem, reconnect the scanner. Scroll down to Erase Codes and press Enter.
  • The code may not be enough to pinpoint the cause. Do not replace parts based on the code alone.
