Tom Cruise Filming Movie in Space: Details From History-Making Moment

Cruise has long been interested in doing a musical. He learned to sing like a rock star for Rock of Ages, and would dance as well, with all three of these scripts to be written by McQuarrie in collaboration with Cruise.

Also looming large is the untitled film that Cruise intends to make with director Doug Liman and McQuarrie producing. You know, the one theyll shoot in outer space, with NASA and Elon Musks SpaceX. Since Deadline broke the story about this plan, Universal signed on to be the studio. As Deadline subsequently reported, theyve aligned with SEE-1, film producer duo Elena and Dmitry Lesnevskys newly-launched Space Entertainment Enterprise that will dock with Axioms world-first commercial space station Axiom Station, which is connected to the International Space Station . That one might well come next.

So much for the notion of Cruise slowing down at age 60. If youve forgotten his floor moves as Grossman, heres a reminder:

Mission Impossible 7 & 8

As mentioned above, the Mission: Impossible movie series is still alive and keeps on producing new content. The latest entry in the franchise was Mission: Impossible Fallout, released in 2018. Fans of the series wont have to worry about the franchise ending with Fallout, as a seventh and eighth movie are in development, with plans of filming back-to-back. Unfortunately, the pandemic also changed those plans, and Mission: Impossible 7 and 8 were rescheduled, with their new release dates being November 19, 2021, and November 4, 2022, respectively.

Box Office Projections For Top Gun: Maverick

Top Gun: Maverick should make between $280 million to $395 million in total domestic box office, according to Shawn Robbins of Boxoffice Pro, which makes projections for U.S. theatrical exhibitors, The Wall Street Journal reported.

That would put the movie solidly in the top-five projected grossing films for the summer, the article said.

Tom Cruise in his new movie Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (2016)

In November 2006, Cruise and Paula Wagner announced that they had taken over the film studio United Artists. Cruise acts as a producer and star in films for United Artists, while Wagner serves as UA’s chief executive.

Production began in 2007 of Valkyrie, a thriller based on the July 20, 1944, assassination attempt against Adolf Hitler. The film was acquired in March 2007 by United Artists. On March 21, 2007, Cruise signed to play Claus von Stauffenberg, the protagonist. This project marked the second production to be greenlighted since Cruise and Wagner took control of United Artists. The first was its inaugural film, Lions for Lambs, directed by Robert Redford and starring Redford, Meryl Streep and Cruise. Lambs was released on November 9, 2007, opening to unimpressive box office revenue and critical reception.

In August 2008, Wagner stepped down from her position at United Artists she retains her stake in UA, which combined with Cruise’s share amounts to 30 percent of the studio.

How Tom Cruise Inspired New Movie Horror Movie The Invitation

The Invitation star Thomas Doherty reveals how Tom Cruise inspired his vampire performance. Director Jessica M. Thompsons The Invitation was originally entitled The Bride. But Thompson herself recently revealed that the title had to be changed after male audiences indicated they didnt like it.

The film now known as The Invitation stars Game of Thrones Nathalie Emmanuel as Evie, a woman who takes a DNA test and finds she has a long-lost cousin. But this joyous discovery turns to horror when Evie accepts an invitation to a lavish wedding thrown by her new-found relative, and finds herself plunged into a nightmare of survival. The Invitation co-stars Doherty as Walter DeVille, the mysterious man who owns the sprawling English estate where the horror wedding is hosted.

Given that The Invitation is billed as being inspired by Bram Stokers Dracula, its no surprise at all that some of Evies elegant new acquaintances turn out to be vampires. Indeed, vampires were on Dohertys mind as inspirations for his portrayal of the sexy and evil Walter. Speaking to Screen Rant, Doherty mentioned two specific performances that informed his portrayal:

Tom Cruise Set To Become First Actor To Shoot Movie In Outer Space

THE MUMMY CLIP COMPILATION + Trailer (2017) Tom Cruise

Originally Published by:

Just when you thought Tom Cruise achieved his greatest possible cinematic triumph with the success of the Top Gun sequel, the blockbuster star comes up with an idea that is, quite literally, out of this world.

The 60-year-old Hollywood veteran has reportedly teamed up with The Bourne Identity director Doug Liman on a movie pitch that involves filming in space, which was first tabled in 2020 before the Covid-19 pandemic halted plans.

Cruise and Liman are said to have reached out to Universal Filmed Entertainment Group on an idea which will see the actor take a rocket up to the International Space Station.

I think Tom Cruise is taking us to space, hes taking the world to space, UFEG Chairman Donna Langley said, per BBC News.

Thats the plan. We have a great project in development with Tom Taking a rocket up to the Space Station and shooting.

Langley revealed most of the movie would be shot on earth, culminating in the character up to space to save the day, adding she is hopeful Cruise will become the first civilian to do a space walk outside of the space station.

If the film gets off the ground, Cruise would be the first movie star to shoot in outer space on the International Space Station.

While the move is certainly unprecedented, its fair to say its unsurprising Cruise is setting his sights for space, with the Jerry Maguire actor renowned for his ambitious stunt work.

One of the best stunts in action movie history finally gave the franchise an identity.

2011 was a painful year for action movies. Quantum of Solace was still the most recent and most mediocre Bond film, Matt Damon wasnt coming back for the next Bourne thriller, and John Wickwasnt even a bloody twinkle in Keanu Reeves eye.

Instead, as Marvel began to tighten its hold on the box office, bloated franchise installments were the order of the day. Transformers: Dark of the Moonpunished innocent moviegoers with 154 minutes of noise, On Stranger Tides embodied the concept of diminishing returns, A Game of Shadows sunk a promising Sherlock Holmes reboot, and Fast Fivewas a brotastic cacophony. If you wanted an original concept, well, there was always Cowboys & Aliens, Battle: Los Angeles, or In Time. It was all enough to make you just stay home and read a book.

But then there was Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol. The grammatically adventurous film was an unlikely savior of the summer popcorn flick, but its Eminem-laden trailer offered little insight into its potential.

But thats a quibble, and viewers agreed. Ghost Protocols sterling critical reception and $694.7 million worldwide haul blew its predecessors out of the water. It accomplished this with a simple formula: Keep the stakes simple, but throw in a few twists. Tell some clever jokes. Perform several stunts that make jaws drop. Keep slow motion and rap-rock as far away from the editing bay as possible.

Tom Cruise Will Shoot Upcoming Film At The International Space Station

Say what you want about Tom Cruise hes dedicated to the job. The actor has consistently pushed the boundaries on set, performing some of the craziest stunts in film history. From hanging off the side of a plane in Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation to experiencing the extreme G-forces of a F/A-18 jet in Top Gun: Maverick, the man has zero chill. With no plans to slow down anytime soon, the 60-year-old is reportedly working on finalising a deal to make him the first actor to shoot a feature film in outer space.

Cruise is said to be in talks with Universal Films En Group about filming at the International Space Station. While movies such as the Cruise narrated documentary Space Station 3D and 2012s Apogee of Fear were filmed at the ISS, the actor wants to become the first civilian to perform a space walk. Has he not seen the 2013 blockbuster Gravity?

I think Tom Cruise is taking us to space, hes taking the world to space, UFEG chairman Donna Langley told BBC News. Thats the plan. We have a great project in development with Tom Taking a rocket up to the Space Station and shooting.

Cruise has long been known to push the limits of action stunts. Ahead of a ComicCon screening of Top: Gun Maverick, the actor, made a promotional video appearance while filming Mission Impossible 7 and seemed to be taking his stunts to new heights, literally.

Upcoming Tom Cruise Movies: Top Gun: Maverick Mission Impossible 7 And More

Tom Cruise, despite his age, remains one of the biggest action stars in Hollywood, and oddly enough, the hard-to-believe yet mostly practical stunts that he pulls off time and time again are only getting crazier. Cruise, who most recently starred in the 2018s Mission:Impossible Fallout and actor proved that even in his mid 50s, he’s still one of the top action stars around. We’re always up for a good Tom Cruise movie, and honestly, everything else the actor has coming up Top Gun: Maverick and Mission: Impossible 7, namely looks pretty damn good too.

Most of Tom Cruises movies have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic closing down film and television productions around the world and audiences reluctance to return to movie theaters, the veteran actor-turned-stuntman has a lot for us to look forward to here in the next year or so. While a couple of them are the requisite sequels that come with success, several others are wholly original projects, like the one that will reportedly take Cruise to space. All that being said, we’re looking forward to simply learning more about many of these, never mind actually seeing the finished product, so here are some upcoming movies from one of the most notable, and hardworking, figures in Hollywood.

Tom Cruise Is One Of The Great Actions Heroes Of All Time But In This Movie Coming To Netflix There’s Nothing Heroic About Him

tom cruise new movies 2020

Tom Cruise is working harder than could possibly be expected of any 60-year-old actor. Cruise has been a leading man since before much of his fan base was born, and has managed to weather the many changes in Hollywood he must have seen over the decades. While he is currently at yet another career high with the incredible box office grosses and critical acclaim of Top Gun: Maverick, the best movie that Tom Cruise ever made is just now landing on Netflix. That movie is 2004s Collateral, the Michael Mann neo-noir that pitted Cruise as a casually murderous assassin against Jamie Foxxs moderately ambitious cab driver. While it may not be one of Tom Cruises best-known movies, it draws more out of him than almost any other movie and will hopefully be gaining a wider audience on Netflix when it arrives on September 1st.

While Tom Cruise is slowly making his way into Los Angeles via Netflix for as-of-yet unknown but clearly grim reasons, we meet Jamie Foxx as cab driver Max Durocher. In Michael Manns extremely direct and immediate directorial style, we see that Jamie Foxx is obsessively tidy, has an encyclopedic knowledge of the Los Angeles grid, and can charm a lawyer played by Jada Pinkett-Smith if you catch him at the right moment. Then Tom Cruise leans into his cab window to see if hes available.

Barbarian Slashes Way To Top Of Box Office

Even in Mission Impossible, Tom Cruise is the top gun.

The movie star stunned fans by promoting the latest film in the spy thriller franchise with a social media post in which he stands on a biplane maneuvering in mid-air and calmly asks moviegoers to see the flick.

Im sorry for all the extra noise, Cruise says while crouched on the fuselage of the aircraft thousands of feet up in the clip released online over the weekend.

As you can see, we are filming the latest installment of Mission Impossible.

The 59-year-olds leather jacket can be seen flapping in the wind, and the camera ostensibly on another nearby aircraft zooms out to show South Africas Blyde River Canyon below.

As another yellow biplane pulls alongside, director Christopher McQuarries voice comes across, telling Cruise that they have to get back to filming.

We are losing the light and low on fuel, McQuarrie says.

Well see you at the movies, Cruise says to the camera with a salute and a smile, as the planes roll off screen in tandem, the star still standing behind the wing.

The star has a long and storied history of performing his own stunts especially in the Mission Impossible franchise, where death-defying acrobatics at great heights have become the actors calling card.

At a masterclass at the Cannes Festival earlier this year, Cruise had a comeback for those who questioned his willingness to risk his life with stuntwork.

Tom Cruise’s Three Big New Projects

Yes, Cruise is in fact working on a musical, or he is if Deadlines reporting is to be believed. Cruise and McQuarrie are planning to develop an original song and dance-style musical. That means new IP, so there shouldnt be any worries about a potential Top Gun: The Musical hitting the silver screen any time soon.

Not that Cruise doesnt have the skills to lead in a musical. The actor trained successfully to be able to sing like a rock musician for Rock of Ages, so the expectations for this project shouldnt be low. Plus, if Risky Business was any indication, we know he can dance.

The other two projects that are now rumored to be in the works are another original action film with franchise potential to go along with Cruises other two action franchises, and a space-based film directed by Doug Liman, with McQuarrie producing. NASA and Elon Musks SpaceX are going to be assisting, and it looks like Cruise’s next project.
