Port Canaveral Chief Executive Officer John Murray presented an upbeat assessment of the port’s outlook during his State of the Port presentation on Wednesday.
But, at the same time, Murray warned that the port needs expanded cruise, cargo and road infrastructure in the future if it wants to continue to thrive.
Port Canaveral had record operating revenue of $128 million in its 2021-22 fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, which was about $20 million higher than budgeted. The revenue included $99 million coming from cruise operations, $18.5 million from cargo operations, and $10.6 million from non-ship operations like leases and recreation.

“We did quite well,” Murray told the roughly 200 invited guests in attendance at the State of the Port event at the port’s newest cruise facility, Terminal 3. “Our year has been stronger than we thought it would be. It was a great year for us in 2022. We’re back on track. We were hitting on all cylinders on the ships. Cruising came back very, very strong in the last six months.”
Port officials expect those operating revenue numbers to rise to $154 million in its 2022-23 budget year that began Oct. 1, with $124.5 million from cruise operations, $18.5 million from cargo operations and $10.9 million from non-ship operations.

I would like to hear from someone who has used a rental car to get from Orlando to the cruise terminal in Port Canaveral. We will be cruising with RCCL. How close to the terminal is the rental car agency? Is it walking distance? a block? 6 blocks? a mile or more?Can the driver drop off someone with all the luggage at the terminal and then turn in car?
After the cruise we want the car again, so we would like to know how farwe are going to have to go to get it. It seems everyone agrees that Dollar and/or Alamo are the two best choices for rental cars.
we found it easier to keep the car in the long term parking lot next to the cruise terminal. It wasn’t very expensive, and when we got back our car was waiting for us. we went to the Bahamas for 5 days.
We rented a car and kept it the entire time. We were on a 4 night cruise and it was cheaper for us to keep it. The cost for parking if I remember correctly was $10.00/day. Friends of ours who stayed in the Orlando area for a longer time period did drop their car off at their car rental agency near the port. Sorry, I don’t remember which one. The husband dropped the wife and kids off at the ship and then dropped the car off. He then took a shuttle from the car rental agency to the ship. When they got off the ship, I think the car rental agency had a car waiting for them at the port.
Would have been less stress to park the car, but did not want to pay rental and parking fees while we were gone!
