It has been confirmed by Disney Cruise Line that they have purchased a new, partially completed cruise ship which will join the fleet in 2025.

DCL has purchased the Global Dream cruise ship which was originally ordered by Genting Hong Kong which went into bankruptcy.

Speculation that Disney may buy the ship first started last month when it became known that the assets of the bankrupt company were going to be liquidated.

I have to say that the announcement that Disney is to purchase the ship came as somewhat of a surprise.

The ship is huge. Almost unimaginably huge.

At 208,000 Gross Tonnes the ship was originally designed to carry approximately 9,500 passengers and more than 2,000 Crew.

However, the announcement from DCL said that passenger capacity is anticipated to be approximately 6,000 with around 2,300 crew members.

The size of the new Disney ship will mean that she is one of the largest cruise ships in the world.

This not only puts the DCL acquisition at much larger than the other ships in the Disney fleet, this means that she will be one of the largest passenger ships in operation.

The new ship will be comparable to the Royal Caribbean International Oasis Class.

The Disney Dream Class and Triton Class have capacity for 4,000 passengers. The new ship will accommodate around 50% more.

The ship measures:

Disney Cruise Line To Buy Massive Unfinished Ship

ORLANDO, Fla. â Disney Cruise Line is buying a massive unfinished ship to add to its growing fleet.

What You Need To Know

  • Disney Cruise Line has announced that it acquired the unfinished Global Dream ship
  • The ship, which was being built for the now-defunct Dream Cruises, will be reimagined by Disney Imagineers
  • The ship will be renamed and is expected to be ready to set sail in 2025

The company announced Wednesday that it had acquired the 208,000-gross-ton ship known as the Global Dream, which was under construction in Germany for the now-defunct Dream Cruises.

The ship, which will get renamed, will be based outside the United States and offer vacations to ânew global destinations,â according to Disney.

âOur cruise ships give us the unique opportunity to bring Disney magic to fans no matter where they are, and the addition of this ship will make a Disney Cruise Line vacation accessible to more families than ever before,â said Josh DâAmaro, chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, in a statement.

Disney said its Imagineers will reimagine the ship, which will feature âinnovative Disney experiences,â dining and entertainment

As with other ships in Disneyâs fleet, the shipâs exterior will be given the Mickey Mouse-inspired color scheme along with signature red funnels.

Under its original design, the Global Dream would have held 9,000 passengers. But with Disneyâs new plans for the ship, it will hold about 6,000 passengers and 2,300 crew members.

The Upper Deck: The Aqua Mouse Waterslide

The first stop was the Upper Deck, where a new waterslide was revealed. Called the “Aqua Mouse,” it begins with a short film based on the classic Mickey and Minnie characters, called “Scuba Scramble.”

A 760-foot ride then whisks passengers over and around the Upper Deck.

“Just like we do with our theme parks, we created a rich storyline with show scenes, lighting and special effects and even a few surprises,” said Danny Handke, senior creative director for Walt Disney Imagineering.

Mermaid Lagoon is part of the adventure, and the Upper Deck area also features a “Toy Story”-themed area and an adults-only area.

New Disney Ship To Be Named Disney Treasure

The next Disney Cruise Line ship will carry the name Disney Treasure. Following the Disney Wish, which debuted recently, the newbuild is set to enter service in 2024.

Along with the vessels first renderings, the news was revealed during the D23 Expo, a Disney fan event.

The sixth cruise ship in the companys fleet, the Treasure will feature a new design concept inspired by the theme of adventure.

According to Disney, the ships public areas and attractions will celebrate Walt Disneys lifelong love of exploration.

The Grand Hall, for instance, was inspired by what the company calls the grandeur and mystery of a gilded palace.

Drawing on real-world influences from Asia and Africa, the atrium is said to pay homage to the land of Agrabah the setting of Disneys Aladdin movie.

At the center of the area, a signature statue of Aladdin, Jasmine and their Magic Carpet will be feature along with a stage.

To be built by the Meyer Werft shipyard, the Disney Treasure is part of a new three-ship class that debuted with the Disney Wish.

First ship built for Disney Cruise Line in nearly ten years, the Wish launched service this summer.

Now offering a series of short cruises to the Bahamas departing from Port Canaveral, the LNG-powered vessel became the companys fifth cruise ship after being delivered in June.

Slightly larger than the Disney Fantasy and the Disney Dream, the new Disney Treasure will feature 1,250 guest staterooms and 140,000 tons.

Disney Private Island Castaway Cay

Disney New Cruise Ship 2021

Castaway Cay is a Bahamian private island leased by Disney Cruises. It serves as an exclusive port of call for Disney ships. Castaway Cay is located close to Great Abaco Island. In 1997, Walt Disney Company bought a 99-year island lease from the Bahamian Government , giving the company substantial control over the cruise ship passenger experience on the island.

In early August 2017 was announced that Disney is looking to buy a second Caribbean private island to be developed as an exclusive port of call for the company’s new cruise ships. The reason for a new private island destination is that Castaway Cay has the capacity to handle ships with capacity up to 875 cabins, otherwise it becomes too crowded. Such a “private island” option emerged in 2016 with Egg Island . However, those plans were abolished after some environmental studies showing that the island’s ecosystem would not sustain the planned development.
